Profile of skills and competences
   Composition of the qualification
The qualification comprises competence required in the Further Qualification for Boat-builders and the following three compulsory modules: supervision, accounting and business economics, boat design. In addition, it is also possible to take the entrepreneurship module.

Vocational skills and competences required for completion of the qualification
Those who have completed the qualification shall:
-command the competence areas required in the Further Qualification for Boat-builders
-be aware of practical supervision methods used in management
-be capable of managing their own business enterprise or of working as supervisors within an enterprise
-be familiar with employment security regulations, social partners, the criteria for determination of earned income and salary and with the obligations laid down in labour legislation
-be familiar with different forms of enterprise and be able to create the documents required when setting up an enterprise
-be capable of assessing and developing their business idea and products
-understand the significance of marketing, customer service and co-operation
-know how to price their products profitably and to draw up cost estimates for customers
-command the basics of bookkeeping
-be able to use the most common key ratios of profitability, liquidity and solvency for financial control of their enterprise
-be familiar with the history of the boat-building field and with the development of Finnish and international boat-building cultures
-be able to read and make technical drawings
-be capable of assessing the properties of a boat, such as stability and seaworthiness, on the basis of line drawings
-be familiar with the principles of hydrostatics and hydrodynamics and be able to perform the necessary calculations

Range of occupations accessible to the holder of the certificate
Those who have completed the qualification may work in boat-building or boat-repair yards as workers and supervisors in assignments related to boat-building, servicing and repairs and as self-employed people.

Officially recognised ways of obtaining the certificate
The qualification is obtained by demonstrating vocational skills in competence tests. National qualification requirements have been defined in core curricula drawn up by the National Board of Education. Education and training leading to the qualification is arranged when necessary. This involves drawing up an individual study plan which includes a learning plan and a competence test plan.

Entry requirements
Qualifications may be completed irrespective of how the vocational skills and competences have been obtained.

Additional information
The organisation and supervision of competence tests is the responsibility of Qualification Committees. The Qualification Committees represent employers, employees, teachers and, when necessary, entrepreneurs in the field.
