Profile of skills and competences
   Composition of the qualification
The modules of the qualification are sweeping and servicing of heating systems, cleaning and servicing of air-conditioning systems and customer service and management of a chimney-sweeping business.

Vocational skills and competences required for completion of the qualification
Those who have completed the qualification shall:
- command basic knowledge of fire prevention, economical use of energy and environmental protection
- be familiar with agreements made and rules agreed on the labour market and comply with these within their organisation
- command extensive knowledge of heating engineering: combustion, fuels, heating equipment and their energy economy
- know how to sweep hearths, boilers and flues efficiently, properly and tidily
- be able to advise and guide their customers on use, servicing and design related to combustion and hearths
- be capable of functioning as experts in their own operating field at fire inspections and preliminary building inspections
- be familiar with the operations, structures and equipment of ventilation systems
- command cleaning and balancing methods and air-conditioning measurements and adjustments
- recognise typical malfunctions in ventilation systems and know how to service such systems
- be familiar with the most important factors influencing fire safety and recognise faults, defects and risks
- be able to assess the level of tightness of air-conditioning equipment and ducts and, where necessary, check tightness using a pressure test
- command customer service, be able to market the services that they offer and know how to develop their services to meet demand
- know how to plan and manage the operations of a chimney-sweeping business and command business management.

Range of occupations accessible to the holder of the certificate
Those who have completed the qualification may work as master chimneysweeps.

Officially recognised ways of obtaining the certificate
The qualification is obtained by demonstrating vocational skills in competence tests. National qualification requirements have been defined in core curricula drawn up by the National Board of Education. Education and training leading to the qualification is arranged when necessary. This involves drawing up an individual study plan which includes a learning plan and a competence test plan.

Entry requirements
Qualifications may be completed irrespective of how the vocational skills and competences have been obtained.

Additional information
The organisation and supervision of competence tests is the responsibility of Qualification Committees. The Qualification Committees represent employers, employees, teachers and, when necessary, entrepreneurs in the field.
